2013 Kymco Super 8 150 Scooter

2013 Kymco Super 8 150 Scooter

  1. I'm thinking of trading my Agility 125 for a Super 8 150. I'd like a few more mph for higher-speed roads. My Agility can do about 62 indicated, which is probably about 55 actual. Any idea where the Super 8 tops out?

    Thanks,

  2. I can normally hit 65-69 on the speedo on mine. I'm not sure what the actual speed is. I'm guessing around 60. I think it's limited by gearing more than power since it does pretty well up hills and doesn't go much faster going down hill.
  3. Cool. Thanks. That's about what I'm looking for.
  4. What happens when you discover the Super 8 isn't quite fast enough? I've always wondered why people buy in increments rather than just getting something that will do what you need it to do without having to jump up a few cc's every half year or so. Get a 300cc scoot and you'll have enough! Well - maybe...
  5. I have a Super 8 and an Aprilia Sport City 250. For around town riding I prefer the Super 8. Bigger is not always better.
  6. Good question. I'm trying not to fall into that trap. For me the beauty of the scooter is its small size. I don't want a scooter as big and heavy as a motorcycle. I have a motorcycle (actually a few motorcycles) for that. I see no point to the maxi-scooter concept. The scooter is for going to the store for a quart of milk in shorts, tee-shirt, and flip flops. Parking in the bicycle rack. Rolling in and out of the garage with little effort. Etc.

I need something fast enough to extend away from traffic on a 45 mph road where everyone is doing 55. The Agility 125 is close, but it's not quite fast enough. I have to keep the throttle pretty much pinned the whole time.

I tried the Super 8 today. It was fast enough, I think. It may be too big. The one I was looking at is a little beat up. We couldn't agree on a price.

I have a 2013 Super 8 and mine would only top out at an indicated 55mph in stock form which is about an actual 50mph.

klaviator must have gotten a Super 8 "Special" and I'm quite jealous. I've had to modify my Super 8 a little to get to an indicated 62mph which was a GPS verified 57mph.

I would like to know more about the reliability of the Super 8. It seems to have about the same top speed as my Yamaha 125s. Has anyone put enough miles on a Super 8 to have an idea of it's reliability? Have you had to replace the belt, and if so, how many miles did it have when you replaced it? Has anyone done any long distance trips on a Super 8?

I know this is a Super 8 thread, but I also have the same questions about the HD200.

As for the maxi scooter thing, they have a couple of advantages for me over a motorcycle. First is no shifting and clutching, and second is that they are easier to get on and off of than a motorcycle. (severe arthritis) Honda's CTX700 DCT has eliminated the first issue with motorcycles, but they can still be hard to get on and off of. Unfortunately, many maxi scooters also have a high step over. I have found 125cc scooters to be perfect for city use, especially those with flat floors, but they don't seem to hold up as well as larger scooters on longer trips, even when ridden on roads where they are legal. This is probably because to get 50 mph out of them, you have to ride them at WOT.

My GF just picked up a 2014, followed me home on it and she could hit 50 in a few sections when needed.

I say that is fast enough for an around town machine.:rofl

    Jim you'll need more power!
Butler Blvd might as well be a 75mph road at this point as you know. Same for 9A...opps I meant 295. Hell I've had days where my Kymco S200 came up short on Beach Blvd.

I found here in "Freakville" if ya can't ride butler its the long way around almost everywhere.

Bought a SYM RV200 and now no issues on those roads. The HD and RV not much bigger than most 150's.

Same dealer you should take a look at the SYMs.

  11. I have nearly 15,000 miles on my super 8. I would rate the overall quality below that of the Japanese scooters or the Kymco's built in Taiwan. Still, it's been a solid scooter. I spend most of my time near or at full throttle. the engine runs better now than when it was new. I have had a few problems with it but none of them kept the scooter from running. I have lost some bolts and fasteners. If I bought another one I'd use blue loctite on everything.

I love having a backup kick starter. The battery is getting weak and has trouble if it's really cold. No problem, one kick is all it normally takes.

I did replace the Belt, rollers, and sliding blocks at 7k. They were still in pretty good shape so I'm sure I could have waited longer.

Tires are an issue. Only the stock Chen Shins are available in the right size. They aren't real good in the rain but they do last forever. I replaced the rear at 8500 and still have the original front.

Valve checks are pretty simple. Figure one hour or less if you don't have to spend a lot of time tracking down your tools:lol3

Oil changes every 1200 miles. Super easy and .8 qt.

It's pretty comfortable. I've done 200 miles in a day and it handles a passenger easily.

  12. Where are the Super 8s built?

I'll take a look at the SYM.

Genuine is now making a 170. Anyone know offhand where it tops out?

  13. Indeed, lol. In truth, I've come to trust the folks on this board WAY more than any review. That being said, the 170 sounds just about perfect. I LOVE the ten-inch wheels. And the 62 mph actual.
  14. The Super 8 is built in China as is the Agility.

I rode once with a guy on a Buddy 125. I was on my Sport City. I was impressed with the buddy's speed.

  15. Being unsure of your stature, the Buddy line are very pequeño. I am average size and my size 11 feet do not have much room on the floorboard. The scooter has a very compact feel. That being said, this does lend to the diminutive and zippy nature of the bikes.
  16. That's just better and better. I want a small scooter. I gotta go try out a 170. I would hate to buy a new scooter, but this thing may force my hand.

The Super 8 sounds like a nice scooter for the price. IMO it has kind of a Chinese scooter look to it, but is better quality. Speed is not really an issue if you are going to stay off the freeways anyway. 50 mph will keep up with city traffic.

I fit well on the Buddy 125, and I'm on the large side. You can't really stretch out, but it is a quick, nimble little scooter. It feels almost like you are wearing it.

Not sure what to make of that new Genuine scooter. It has a very military look to it. The problem I see is the 170cc engine. If it is the same 170 engine in the Buddy 170, they are well known for overheating problems. I came real close to buying one until I found out about that. It's basically a 125cc engine bored and stroked to 170cc, and even with an oil cooler (mounted in a really bad spot) can't seem to keep it's temperature under control. Definitely does not sound good for a place like AZ.

  19. I see where your thoughts are now. Smaller is better? That 'shoe' doesn't fit me since I can't go anywhere on one road without hitting 55 or higher speeds. And I'm in an agricultural area - go too slow and you've got an 18 wheeler full of apples or wheat on your ass and in a hurry to get to I90 and out of the area. Don't get behind a Canadian trucker - apparently there is no tail-gating laws in Canada. They'll ride your ass like a crappy diaper if you don't yield to them!

There are some 200cc scooters of smaller size than other 200cc scooters. Off-hand I can't remember which is what. I'm into the maxi scooters. My YP-400 Majesty is small to me.
